HiBob (Bob) authenticates API access with a service user — a non-login account that exists only to authenticate API requests. You’ll create a service user, grant it a read-only permission group, and share its ID and token with Human Intelligence. We authenticate with Basic Auth using that ID and token.
Note: You need HiBob admin access (or a Bob admin acting on your behalf) to create service users and permission groups.

Create a service user

  • In Bob, open System Settings (the settings icon next to the HiBob logo, top-left), then go to Integrations and click Manage under Service users.
  • Click Create service user and give it a descriptive name such as Human Intelligence Analytics.
  • Copy both the ID and Token immediately and treat them as passwords.
Important: The token is shown only once, when the service user is created. If it’s lost, an admin has to generate a new token and reconnect.

Create a read-only permission group

New service users have no permissions by default. In System Settings → Account → Permission Groups, create a new permission group, add the service user under Members, and set the three tabs below. Grant View / read access only — leave every Edit box unchecked.

Access rights

Set Access data for to Everyone, and include past (terminated) employees — attrition and retention analysis needs leavers, not just active staff.

Features

On the Features tab, enable read access to these modules:
Note: A few Features (such as Hiring and Time off) expose their data only through the feature’s own permission rather than a separate read-only toggle — enabling the feature is required to read that data, and Human Intelligence still only ever reads it, never writing back to HiBob.

People’s data

On the People’s data tab, tick the boxes below for each category.

Enter your credentials

  • Click Connect above to open the connection form.
  • Enter your Service User ID (the ID copied in step 1).
  • Enter your Service User Token (the token copied in step 1).
  • Click Connect to save.
